At Lyons, sourcing seafood in a responsible way has always been placed at the core of our business. For all of our stakeholders, employees, customers and shareholders, we have a duty to manage our business in a way that allows future generations to continue to enjoy seafood tomorrow.

We are so highly committed to sustainable seafood that over 80% of our raw material is sourced from responsible sources. In fact we were the first UK seafood processor to map our carbon footprint from source to store and develop a carbon reduction plan in 2007.

We have reduced our landfill by around 1,000 tonnes per annum, and are proud that all paper packaging used within the company now comes from Forest Stewardship Council or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) approved sources.

The last decade has seen a significant rise in the global demand for protein, with seafood championing the heart of that change. With this growth set to continue for the foreseeable future, the challenges are immense to ensure this demand is met in a responsible way. This will only be achieved through a combination of well managed wild caught fisheries, and an increasing emphasis on aquaculture.

Our business is primarily about the sourcing of top quality shellfish, most importantly prawns, where we are the UK market leader. We are proud to have set many of the standards that have over time become general industry best practice. However, we also recognize that the past is just that, and the essence of responsible sourcing is one of continuous improvement.

Lyons Seafoods leads the way in terms of responsible sourcing, always striving to make fisheries and fish farming more sustainable as part of a long term initiative. We are proud to have achieved a number of "firsts” including the first UK manufacturer to launch Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified cold water prawns in the UK retail market in October 2008.

Each of our suppliers is regularly audited to ensure that they adhere to the highest standard and within our written guidelines and policies.
